Remarks

Reading resolves the field lazily with FindField(FieldName) against the linked dataset (when it is active, or when it has persistent fields) and caches it; the result is nil when no dataset is linked or no field matches.

Assigning a field also copies its name into FieldName and refreshes the grid. The column does not own the field.
